Weirather Joins the Rebels

Tina Weirather, the newly crowned World Cup Super G Champion for 2016 - 2017, has signed to join the HEAD World Cup Rebels team. Weirather has signed to race on HEAD Skis and Boots for two years.

Just prior to winning the final Super G of the 2017 season, Weirather posted her thoughts on the lead up to the race and these thoughts echo all the traits that HEAD World Cup Rebels have. Weirather explained “The one chance, the showdown. The pressure I put on myself was enormous, but I knew I worked hard for this, and that I was ready for it. I'm not gonna lie, there were moments when I thought I couldn't handle it. But, then I thought of all the hours and effort I put into it - I needed to allow myself to know that I deserve it.”

27 year old Weirather ended last season with the Globe for the Super G World Cup as well as winning the silver medal in the World Championships also in Super G. In all she has won seven World Cup races (five Super G and one each in Giant Slalom and Downhill) along with the one World Championship medal from St Moritz in 2017.

Regarding her decision to join the most successful team on the Women’s World Cup, Tina explained: “I am thrilled to be joining the HEAD team. After the successful season and before the Olympic Games in Pyeongchang 2018, it seems surprising that I have decided to change ski. But I have thought about it and tested a lot.

“In the ski tests with HEAD, I felt very good from the start, and I felt that the material meets my driving style, both in the giant slalom, Super-G and in the downhill. The professionalism and passion of the HEAD team inspired me and I immediately felt comfortable. Of course, a lot of work is waiting for me, but if the conversion continues so smoothly, I am convinced that I can achieve a lot.”

Rainer Salzgeber, the Racing Manager for the HEAD World Cup Rebels programme was delighted to welcome Tina to the HEAD World Cup Rebels team. “Tina is a great personality and a fantastic athlete. I expect we can help her to be a really solid and winning athlete, especially in the speed disciplines and get her back to a great level in Giant Slalom.”

Johan Eliasch, CEO and Chairman of HEAD added: “I am delighted that Tina is joining the Rebels team. The calibre of racer of the HEAD World Cup Rebels team means that with Tina joining the team has become even stronger. I look forward to her success.”

Tina will spend the summer training and will make her debut for the HEAD World Cup Rebels in Soelden in October.
