Soelden: The HEAD World Cup Rebels Unleashed

It is time to look at the prospects for the HEAD World Cup Rebels in the opening World Cup race of the season in Soelden. With new faces joining the team and others returning to fitness in time for the opening race of this, the 2016 - 2017 World Championship season, the HEAD World Cup Team is stronger and even more exciting than last year!

The 2015 season saw the HEAD team trying to recover from the horrible news in the days leading up to the race of Anna Fenninger injuring her knee and the result being that she would be out for the season along with rising Canadian star, Dustin Cook. 2016 sees the great news that both are returning to form and planning on being back racing.

New signing last year, Lara Gut secured fourth place in her first race as a HEAD World Cup Rebel. The race was dominated by Italian Federica Brignone with Gut just fifteen hundredths off the podium. Gut went on to win six races last season as well as being on the podium a further seven times as she grabbed the Overall Globe.

Anna Fenninger is now Anna Veith following her summer marriage, and she has decided to skip the season opener in Soelden and her return is currently unknown. With Lindsey Vonn deciding to concentrate on the speed races this year, Gut and the rest of the HEAD World Cup Rebels Women will be looking to get off to a strong start down one of the few slopes where the women and men race down the same piste on the World Cup.

The men’s race saw Ted Ligety post the fastest time on the first run and then hold a charging Thomas Fanara with Marcel Hirscher posting the same time on the second run as Ligety to go third. With the men’s technical specifications of their skis changing for 2017 - 2018, this will be the final season for the much maligned 35 m radius Giant Slalom skis. Ligety will want to continue his excellent results at Soelden that has seen him four times and been on the podium three times.

This season watch out for Alexis Pinturault, a three in a row winner in GS last season; Mathieu Faivre; Gino Caviezel, Kjetil Jansrud, Aksel Lund Svindal, Dustin Cook as well as new signing Ragnhild Mowinckel in the girls race.

The season is ready to rumble! The racers are ready to push it to the limit.

With the HEAD Rebels Club up and running, you can now identify yourself with the World Cup Rebels!
